Whole-Home Surge Protection

One device at the panel. Every circuit covered.
A surge protector installed at your electrical panel protects everything on every circuit — the AC, the appliances, the electronics and the EV charger — not just what is plugged into a power strip.

Sound familiar?

Surges don’t announce themselves.

A storm rolled through and the TV, the router or the garage-door opener quit.
An expensive appliance or an HVAC control board failed early, and nobody could say why.
You are adding solar, a battery or an EV charger and want the electronics protected.
Your panel is being replaced or upgraded — and code now requires surge protection.
How it works

Stop it at the panel.

A whole-home surge protective device (SPD) mounts at your main panel and clamps voltage spikes before they reach your circuits — from lightning nearby, utility switching, or large motors starting inside the house.
It works alongside the power strips you already own: the panel device takes the big hit, and point-of-use strips handle what is left at sensitive electronics.
Since the 2020 National Electrical Code, a surge protector is required whenever a home’s electrical service is installed or replaced (NEC 230.67) — so if you are upgrading your panel, it belongs on the quote.

The difference

Why homeowners call us.

Licensed, not “handy”

Installed under TECL #35881, on the correct breaker, to the manufacturer’s instructions and to code.

Sized for your home

Type 1 or Type 2, standard or premium — we match the device to your service and to what you are protecting.

10-year warranty

Our electrical work is covered for ten years — in writing.
What to expect

Quoted clearly, installed properly.

We look at your panel and your service, then recommend the right device: a Type 2 protector at the panel for most homes, a Type 1 device on the service side where it makes sense, or a premium unit for homes with more to protect. If an existing surge device is worn out, we replace it.

For the equipment that takes the most abuse, we can add dedicated protection for the HVAC system and the EV charger. You get a fixed price in writing before we start.

With solar, batteries and EV chargers

Protect the expensive stuff.

Inverters, battery systems and EV chargers are full of electronics that do not like spikes. When we install or service solar, a battery or a charger, we check whether your panel has surge protection and tell you if it is worth adding. It is usually the least expensive protection for the most expensive equipment in the house.

Where we do this work

Local, and provably so.

Questions

Asked often.

How much does whole-home surge protection cost?

It depends on your panel and the device that fits it. Most homes need a single device at the panel, installed in one visit — you get a fixed price before we start.

Is it required by code?

Since the 2020 National Electrical Code, yes whenever a home’s service is installed or replaced (NEC 230.67). Existing homes do not have to add one, but it protects everything on your circuits.

Do I still need power strips?

For sensitive electronics, yes. The panel device stops the large surges; a good point-of-use strip handles the small ones that are left.

Will it protect against a direct lightning strike?

No device can promise that. A whole-home protector handles the far more common surges from nearby strikes, utility switching and motors inside the house.

How long does installation take?

Most installs are a single visit on a panel with a free space for the breaker. If your panel is full, we will tell you the options before you pay anything.
