Can you service a generator another company installed?
Yes — service and repair on existing standby units is part of the catalog, the same any-installer policy as our solar work.
Standby is a different animal.
A portable generator is a chore with a pull cord: fuel runs, extension cords, and somebody home to start it. A standby unit is infrastructure — permanently installed, fed by natural gas or propane, self-starting within seconds of an outage, self-testing weekly. The difference is engineering: a transfer switch that isolates your home from the grid (required for line-worker safety and code), a load calculation that decides between whole-home and essentials coverage, gas supply verified against the unit’s demand, and placement that respects code clearances.
We’re factory-certified on Generac’s current standby line and run the entire path under TECL #35881 — permit, install, inspection, commissioning. And because a generator that hasn’t been serviced is a generator that might not start, every install can roll into a maintenance plan with scheduled exercise checks.
From assessment to first self-test.
The generator path runs: site and load assessment, unit selection, permit, installation, gas coordination, inspection, and commissioning — and it’s worth knowing where the time actually goes. Equipment availability varies by model and season; permits and utility gas coordination run on the city’s and gas provider’s clocks. We manage all of it and give you dates as they firm up rather than promises that won’t survive contact with a permit office.
Install day itself is typically one to two days: pad placement, transfer switch at the panel, fuel connection, then a full commissioning — simulated outage, load verification, and the weekly self-test schedule set before we leave. You get the inspection record, the commissioning results, and the warranty paperwork in writing. From there the unit tests itself weekly, and a maintenance plan keeps the annual service off your to-do list.
